The King also had it declared that his Queens would be buried here upon their deaths and to this day, four tombs of his late Queens may be found in the commune. Muruta commune is particularly well known amongst the people of the area as the name is a Kirundi word meaning “superior” and is named so because the old King, Mwezi the second, found everything he needed in terms of land-produced luxuries and supplies from this region such as sweet honey, vast amounts of cattle and sorghum plants.
